- Remove objects and weeds: first remove any object sitting on your paver such as outdoor furniture, planters, a fireplace, etc. Then, remove the weeds from the joints, sweeping and cleaning the area afterwards. If possible, we recommend you wait a few days after weeding before continuing on with the rest of your cleanup to ensure that the weeds have completely died out.
- Sweep and clean: It's now time to deep clean! First, sweep the area with a broom to remove stubborn environmental residue. Then, using a stiff bristle brush, a non-abrasive cleaning agent suitable for your type of paver, such as Techniseal brand cleaners, and a gentle stream of water, clean the surface in small sections. Brush the paver in a circular motion. Warning! We recommend using a soft bristle brush for the joints so as to not disturb them. Finally, wash everything down with a gentle stream of water. Your paver should look as good as new!
PRO TIP: to prevent the accumulation of debris, regularly sweep your paved surfaces. This way, you will avoid plant residue and dirt from staining them!
Caution: the use of a high-pressure cleaner is strongly discouraged, as it may cause stripping of the upper part of the material thus making the paver more prone to getting stained from dirt and plant debris.
2. Don't ignore its specific needs!
Sometimes, paved surfaces require special attention. Random spots may appear on your paver and could cause damage if neglected. So start by identifying the source of the stain: is it oil, grease, rust, efflorescence (white spots), organic stains (dead leaves), etc.? Then, clean the area using a certified product that's adapted to the identified problem, such as Techniseal brand products. The key to success: the faster you react, the less damage there will be!
3. Do not hesitate to renew it!
Pavers are very durable, but it's no secret that they won't last forever! In fact, it is often necessary to add polymeric sand after a couple of years. 4. The ultimate finishing touch: the sealant!
Our last pro tip to make your paver last is to apply a protective sealant adapted to your type of concrete. This step is not essential, but it can be very useful because the product makes the infiltration of dirt more difficult. The sealant acts as a sort of shield that protects your paver from extreme weather and UV rays which are often at the root of the premature degradation of certain pavers.
Please note that the sealant must be applied to your entire freshly cleaned paved surface but only after the hardening period of the polymeric sand is complete (around 30 days).
By following these tips, your surfaces should easily withstand weather and aging! If you have any questions regarding the care of your Bolduc pavers, do not hesitate to contact us! Our team of experts will be happy to answer you!
